Sunday, January 15, 22, 29th

Hi everyone,

For the next three Sundays the Junior and Senior Youth group will be participating in a workshop on Buddhism. Joe Pakovits is a member of our congregation and considers himself a "BudhUU." He is extremely knowledgable on the history of Buddhism, it's teachings, wisdoms and practices. Each week Joe will speak on the religion, with time for questions and answers, and will then lead some meditation exercises. Joe is super excited to be working with our youth and I know everyone will have fun and learn a lot. Hope to see everyone on Sunday!

Sunday, January 8

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Start the new year with a chapel service! This Sunday all ages will gather in church for the first 15 minutes(that will give us a chance to hear Owen perform during the service)  and then will return to Joshi Chapel for an all ages Chapel Service. It was wonderful to have all of you youth at the last Chapel Service in October. The younger children loved having you as "worship buddies."  Hope to see you on Sunday!

Sunday, December 4th

Hey everyone!

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2nd  7-9pm  Trivets and Coasters (Take 2)
Come to church between 7-9pm and make some trivets and coasters to sell during coffee hour to help fund our activities and trip. They are super fun and easy to make. Last weekend Luan, the Mooney sisters and I made a bunch. We sold a few at the Thanksgiving service and people really liked them! The more of these the better. PLEASE try to come- (here comes the tough love part...) The church does not give us a large amount of money to fund movie nights, and activities, and snacks. We must earn that money ourselves! We have not had a fundraiser yet this year. If you want to have these things for your youth group then you must also be responsible for making them possible!

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4th  10:30am  Music and Spirituality
Come to the regular regular youth group meeting with some music that speaks to you. Be ready to share why you find it spiritual or moving. After service be ready to sell coffee and trivets and coasters!

PIZZA AND CARAFTING
Remember those cute coasters and trivet I showed you last week? Let's get together on Friday, November 18th from 7:00 to 10:00pm and make some! They are super easy and fun to make. If you would like- bring a package of cute luncheon or dinner size napkins that you think would make cute coasters. We will sell the finished product during coffee hours in December. Please RSVP to Pam so I know how much Pizza to bring.

INTER FAITH YOUTH CORE LUNCH
"On Sunday, November 20th Nic Cable will be hosting a lunch / information session about the Interfaith Youth Core, an organization where youth of all faiths and traditions work together to make the world a better place.  We'll meet at the Unitarian Church of Hinsdale at noon and depart for Hyde Park where we will have a late lunch at the Medici restaurant.  Nic will lead a discussion about the Interfaith Youth Core with an emphasis on how you can get involved.  We anticipate returning to Hinsdale around 4pm.

Jeff Teppema can provide transportation for up to 3 additional passengers.  If more youth are interested, we'll need to find additional transportation."

Sunday, October 30th

Hi everyone,

This SUnday all youth will attend the service. The guest speaker is Nic Cable, a UU seminarian. I heard he is really wonderful and am looking forward to the service myself!

Acts of Faith: Interreligious Engagement as Spiritual Practice
"Unitarian Universalists are theologically diverse. Every church is unique, every person is unique. How do we understand, value, and participate in interreligious engagement, both as individuals and as a collective faith tradition? In this sermon, drawing from the work of Eboo Patel's book on Acts of Faith, we will begin to unpack these questions. Patel's book is this year's UUA Common Read. It offers us an opportunity to reflect on our origins and identity as a religious people, and consider which direction we would like to head in the 21st century."

See you Sunday!

Sunday, October 16

Hey everyone,

Thank you so  much for your enthusiastic participation in last weeks chapel service. It went really well and I have you to thank!!

This week we will be watching an episode of 30Days on Immigration. Here's the blurb... "Frank George is a member of the Minutmen, a citizens' volunteer group that patrols the country's borders. Like all Minutemen, Frank holds staunch anti-illegal views, as he and his family legally immigrated from Cuba to Miami when he was 7 years old. He will live with a Mexican family of mixed status in a one-bedroom apartment in Los Angeles." Come ready to watch and join in some lively discussion. We will then make an exciting announcement!

Also please add any last minute ideas to our brainstorming sheets. I will be taking them down after SUnday and working with YAC to plan the years calendar!

See you Sunday!

Sunday, October 9th

Hi Everyone,

This Sunday you will attend the first part of church with your family for a special Time For All Ages. Then as high school youth you have two options; you can stay in the service or you can return to the RE Building and join my chapel service. I would like for the senior youth to be "Worship Buddies" for some of the younger children. I suppose a third option would be to stay home, sleep in and catch up on homework- but I really hope you will come. This Time For All Ages is what I see you all helping with as part of your worship componant and the Chapel Service could be run by you as part of your leadership/worship componant (so can being a worship buddy) (Imagine a little peanut wanting to come to church each week because they want to see their big kid worship buddy). Hope to see you on SUnday! Don't forget your Con stuff!!

SUNDAY, MAY 22

Hi everyone!

WHAT'S UP THIS WEEK
Great job on the Plant Sale! We made about $500 so far and we have a lot of plants still to sell. This coming Sunday we will have one more go of it. Hopefully we will be able to set up outside on the lawn. We will need all youth to help do that and to stay after church for a while to help customers. Everyone who helps will receive a discount off the cost of the retreat trip. See you Sunday!

RETREAT
There are a few of you that have not responded for the retreat. A $50 deposit is due if you are planning on attending. In the next couple of weeks I will be able to give you a final price(probably around $125) and permission slip. Please let me know either way so I can inform the retreat center of our group and plans. Thanks!!

Sunday, May 15th

Hi Everyone!!

PLANT SALE
This Sunday is our Plant Sale!  The plan is to set up tables outside on the lawn and fill them with all our home grown veggies, herbs and flowers. The advisors will be buying and bringing some flats of flowers as well. The goal is to make more than $500 to offset the cost of our retreat. Anyone who helps with the sale will receive a discount on the cost of the trip.

Dan will be participating in the Bridging Ceremony during the service so maybe you can take a break and come cheer him on!

ANNUAL MEETING
Sam and Sarah have agreed to babysit during the annual meeting next Sunday, May 22nd. Anyone else? It would be nice to have one or two more youth. Let me know!
